The Making of Script & Sip
This one still makes me smile because I absolutely did not see it coming.
I had already been working with Nicolas and his family for quite some time through the restaurant. One day, during a meeting for something completely unrelated, the topic of calligraphy came up. I casually mentioned that I was doing workshops and that I was looking for a new place to host them.
Nicolas looked at me and said, almost offhandedly, “Why don’t you do something with my brother? He has a really nice location.”
And I was like… yeah, why not?
So I reached out to his brother, Diego. When we started talking, he explained that they were known for their wines and that they already offered a curated wine experience at Olas y Copas. And somewhere in that conversation, the idea just clicked.
What if we mixed the wine experience… with calligraphy?
That’s literally how Script & Sip was born.

Our very first edition was beautiful but also a learning experience in the most honest way possible.
The first challenge hit us immediately: wind. Because the experience takes place outdoors, right by the ocean, we suddenly realized that paper and breeze are not best friends. Pages were moving, lifting, trying to escape. We all looked at each other like, we definitely did not think this through.
The second challenge was time. Diego’s usual wine experience consists of five courses, and my calligraphy workshops normally last about three hours. We quickly realized that combining both meant the evening stretched much longer than expected. By the time we finished, we were well into the night. The sunset, which was supposed to be one of the most beautiful parts of the experience, had already passed us by.
Still, even with those challenges, something special was happening.
So for the second Script & Sip and every other sessions after that, we made intentional adjustments.

We adjusted the starting time so guests could fully enjoy the sunset without working late into the night. We shortened the wine experience from five courses to three, and I simplified the calligraphy workshop as well. Instead of trying to teach everything, we focused deeply on the basics. This gave students the space to truly understand, practice, and feel confident.
We also learned how to work with the wind instead of against it. New supplies, better setups, fewer flying pages.
And that’s when everything really came together.
The feedback has been overwhelmingly warm. People love the wine experience. The setting, the ocean right next to you, the sunset, the live music, the food, the wine (and mocktails for those who don’t drink). But what they love most is the combination.
You’re tasting. You’re learning. You’re present.
Calligraphy naturally pulls you into the moment. You have to slow down. Focus. Breathe. And when you pair that with good wine, good food, and a beautiful environment, something shifts. People relax. They connect. They enjoy it fully.

Script & Sip has since become one of the experiences people ask me about the most. Couples come together. Friends book it as a shared moment. I’ve even received multiple requests for private events because people love the idea so much.
To me, this experience is a reminder of what can happen when you create together.
When ideas are shared openly, when adjustments are made with care, and when the goal is not perfection... but presence.
Script & Sip is exactly that. And I’m so grateful it exists.
